Oxmoor Valley Elementary School is getting a new garden thanks to TekLinks' new partnership.

We're thrilled to announce the expansion of our community outreach by teaming with United Way of Central Alabama and Hands On Birmingham to sponsor Oxmoor Valley Elementary School!

UWCA and TekLinks will kick-off collaboration with Oxmoor Valley Elementary School during a Back-to-School Rally Tuesday, August 2, from 3 to 6 p.m.

In addition to providing food, fun, and games for the children, our employees will help parents with Birmingham City School’s new online school registration process.  Dr. Kelly Castlin-Gacutan, Superintendent of Birmingham City Schools, is expected to attend.

“TekLinks is so excited and honored to be kicking off our partnership with Oxford Valley Elementary School,” said Jim Akerhielm, TekLinks’ Chief Executive Officer. “We’re looking forward to working with the teachers, students and staff to do an even better job of enabling our children to reach their fullest potential and pursue their passions in life, capably and confidently,” said Akerhielm.

The ultimate goal of TekLinks and other companies that adopt schools is to vastly expand our cycle of success in Birmingham whereby these students develop into successful, fulfilled adults who are then in position to give some of their time, talents and resources to improve the communities in which they live and work.

Hands on Birmingham and TekLinks employees have begun creating a garden at the school. TekLinks is also sponsoring a United Way Safe Routes Bicycle Rodeo, a hands-on event at which students will learn bike skills and safety.

During the 2016-2017 school year, TekLinks volunteers will provide 250 backpacks with supplies, and participate in tutoring programs through Better Basics.  Employees will also provide support with teacher technology projects in the computer lab and help prepare students to take the ACT Aspire Test on computers.
