Springtime has arrived in the South. And as the rising temperatures awaken habits like exercising, gardening and outdoor grilling from their winter slumber, your to-do list is growing faster than your early peas.

Before spring fever really sets in, make time to clean your device, inside and out. Here are six ways to give it a little TLC.

Folders are your friend
Getting organized streamlines your ability to access apps, and grouping alike apps in folders can help you find them more quickly. There is no template—use whatever logic works best for you—but some people group their utility apps, social media apps and financial apps to keep them straight.

Back up your files
Many of us treat our devices like they have limitless storage, filling them up with pics and videos that hog memory and bog down even simple functions. Now is the time to back up the files you want to keep on a laptop or external drive, then delete what you don’t. Or, you can move them to cloud storage (iCloud for iOS users; Google Drive for Android users).

Yes, get the software updates
How long do you ignore the push notifications to download your device’s operating system software update? Nighttime is a perfect opportunity to refresh your phone while giving your brain some well-deserved downtime. While you’re at it, check for updates to your apps. These updates often contain helpful security patches in addition to new features. Don’t be afraid to dump apps you never use.

Clear the cache
Your device’s browser works just like the browser on your computer. Unless you browse in Private mode, it stores website cookies, browsing history and form-fill data like usernames and passwords. Clearing the cache will give you a fresh start, and should improve performance.

Deep clean that sucker
Your device’s touch screen is one of the dirtiest surfaces you’ll ever encounter. Disinfectant wipes containing 70 percent isopropyl alcohol, or a homemade solution diluted with water, will kill most of those germs. Will you’re at it, remove the case and grab a cotton swab to get the crud out of all the crannies. Replace the screen protector, if needed.

Give it the reboot
It’s every computer tech’s favorite move—when your device starts to act up, give it a hard reboot by powering it off and then restarting. This is especially helpful to correct connection issues.
