The numbers are in, and education has landed the top spot among the many enhancements C Spire made to its wireless network in 2024.
As part of a $25 million investment, C Spire added and upgraded 5G and LTE cells at 18 schools across its Mississippi footprint, representing the Gulf Coast and Pine Belt regions as well as central and northern areas of the state.
Schools and districts covered by these enhancements include Biloxi and Gulfport high schools, as well as East Central in Jackson County and George County in Lucedale; West Harrison and Creekbend Elementary in Harrison County; Oak Grove Middle School in Forrest County; Forest, Morton, Raleigh, Nanih Waiya, Union and West Lauderdale high schools in central Mississippi; and high schools in West Point, Caledonia, Eupora and Corinth in the northern sector.
Bolstering coverage at special events that brought a surge of attendees — like Mardi Gras parades, the Thunder Over Columbus air show at Columbus AFB, the South Mississippi Fair in Laurel, collegiate sports, festivals and concerts — C Spire sent its COW (Cell On Wheels) and COLT (Cell On Light Truck) to keep network traffic moving swiftly.
